2015 was a Great Year

I have been very busy over the past few months, working on projects, networking, and getting settled in Seattle again. I have also been lending my talents as a Rails developer to a local startup, which is going to launch soon. Not only have I learned a lot, but it feels good to work on a project that could really help people. I will have more information on that in the near future.

Seattle has a very active tech community, and I dived in as soon as I got here. In addition to the many ongoing Ruby, JS, and technical meetups I attend several times a week, I attended a few very useful presentations…

10/21/2015: Seattle Rails Networking Meetup

This meetup was held at WhitePages, in Rainier Tower. If you’ve ever seen downtown Seattle, you’ve probably seen Rainier Tower. It has a very unique shape!

I was very impressed by Landon Schropp’s CSS Flexbox demo. You can learn about his book here, and download the first chapters for free, in a self-contained Middleman static site. Flexbox provides a great degree of native CSS customization, and it’s supported by all modern browsers. It makes positioning items and creating grids much easier. Flexbox Froggie is another fun online resource for learning Flexbox.

10/27/2015: Seattle DevOps Meetup

The meetup was held at Chef’s offices in Seattle. API expert Owen Rubel argued the need to implement distributed architectural APIs, to optimize authentication for modern, distributed systems. If you are interested in APIs or DevOps, I would strongly recommend that you take a look at his work. His presentation was amazing! Other Notable Meetups

2015 was a great year. I learned a lot, and I worked hard to be a better developer. I’m looking forward to doing even greater things in 2016!
